PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light detecting element and a light transmitting member fixing structure which can protect the light transmitting member from occurrence of separation and cracks against a high impact, and totally preclude peel-off of the light transmitting member even when the light transmitting member is formed thickly. SOLUTION: The light detecting element comprises a base part 2a, a can- shaped part 2b of which the lower end is fixed to the base part 2a and of which the upper end has an opening 2c transmitting light, a plate-shaped light transmitting member 6 which is arranged such that it covers the opening 2c from the inside of the can-shaped part 2b, and a light transmitting member holding part 9 which is arranged inside of the can-shaped part 2b and holds the light transmitting member 6 together with the can-shaped part 2b.
