PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid bubbles in water from interfering ultrasonic flaw detection, on the assumption that the bubbles are mixed in the water. SOLUTION: Bubble-free water is supplied respectively toward a clearance between a metal band and an ultrasonic transmitting element, and a clearance between the metal band and an ultrasonic receiving element, when the metal band is inserted between the ultrasonic transmitting element and the ultrasonic receiving element arranged opposedly in a water tank, and when an ultrasonic beam is transmitted and received between the ultrasonic transmitting element and the ultrasonic receiving element via the metal band to detect an internal defect of the metal band.
