PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detergent composition for clothes having an excellent storage stability and an improved detergency. SOLUTION: This detergent composition contains (a) a compound represented by formula I (wherein R<1> is a 7-23C hydrocarbon group; R<2> is a 1-3C alkyl group; and R<3> is a 1-6C alkylene or alkenylene group), (b) a nonionic surfactant other than compound (a), (c) an anionic surfactant, and (d) water and has an entry stress of 0.01-20 kg/cm<2> . The entry stress is measured by bringing a disk having an area of 1 cm<2> into contact with the surface of the detergent composition kept at 25 deg.C and measuring the stress generated when the disk enters the detergent composition by 2 cm at an entry speed of 30 cm/min.
