PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyvinyl acetate resin emulsion without causing dircoloration which is excellent in the control of emulsion polymerization and the polymerization stability and which hardly contains a formaldehyde or does not contain it at all. SOLUTION: The method is characterized in that, in emulsion polymerization of a vinyl acetate monomer using a vinyl alcohol polymer with a saponification value of 70 mol% or more as a dispersant, a redox polymerization initiator comprising a hydrogen peroxide and L-ascorbic acid and/or its metal salt is used, emulsion polymerization is performed after adding an iron compound and pH of the emulsion is adjusted to 4-7 with an alkali metal or alkaline-earth metal compound.
