METHOD FOR PRODUCING HEAT-RESISTANT MAT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial method of production of a heat-resistant mat in which an organic binder is uniformly dispersed and which has a substantially uniform thickness, by including the organic binder disappeared by thermal decomposition in the alumina fiber mat compressed in the thickness direction. SOLUTION: This method for producing the heat-resistant mat comprises the first step of impregnating an organic binder liquid into the alumina fiber mat, the second step of compressing the alumina fiber mat impregnated with the organic binder liquid in the thickness direction and the third step of removing the medium liquid from the organic binder liquid while keeping the thickness of the compressed aluminous fiber mat and is characterized by using a water dispersion of the organic binder containing a nonionic surfactant having >=40 deg.C of cloud point and having 0.01-5 wt.% content thereof based on the organic binder as the organic binder liquid.
