A propulsion unit comprises coaxial shafts 16, 17 located in a stern tube 65 and carrying respective contra-rotating propellers 27, 28, and being connected by drive-shafts 12, 13 to reduction gearing of respective drive units. Propeller bosses 31, 34 are secured on the shafts 16, 17 by collars 32, 35 and circumferential keys. Oil is supplied to bearings 19, 20, 25, 26 by connection 66 and apertures in shaft 16. Shafts 12, 13 are formed in portions having end flanges secured by bolts, portion 72b of shaft 12 being movable axially to allow access to end coupling (82) of shaft 13.
