PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for installing a heavy load in a tunnel, which enables shortening of a construction period by bringing about efficient transport and installation of the heavy load. SOLUTION: This method has a transport process, a temporary placement process and a positioning process. In the transport process, at a temporary storage site 32 of the heavy load 11, a loading space 25 of a high-speed conveying vehicle 21 is inserted into a space part 10 of the heavy load 11, which is made to ascend by an elevating means 26 provided in the loading space 25 and carried into the tunnel 12. In the temporary placement process, the heavy load 11 is made to descend in a transfer position on this side of an installation position by the elevating means 26 of the vehicle 21, and placed in the transfer position so as to make the vehicle 21 go out of the tunnel 12. In the positioning process, a low-speed conveying vehicle 19 with an elevating mechanism 30 is made to travel from a position 33 in readiness, which is provided outside the tunnel 12, to the transfer position, and the heavy load 11 is made to ascend by means of the elevating mechanism 30 and moved for installation to the installation position.
