PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holding structure for a platen glass for reading a fed original, with which the platen glass for feeding an original is not damaged even when a force is unexpectedly applied by supporting the platen glass with a guide board combining a thin supporting glass pane with a thick board to be supported in an image reader for capturing image information by irradiating the original to be fed with light. SOLUTION: The platen glass 4 for reading a fed original is supported while being placed at one terminal edge of thin supporting glass panes 12 and 22, the other terminal edge of these supporting glass panes 12 and 22 is supported while being placed on thick boards 11 and 12 to be supported, and these boards 11 and 21 to be supported are supported by a front top plate 2b and a back top plate 2c. Even when bending the platen glass 4, this is blocked by the thick boards 11 and 21 to be supported so that the platen glass 4 is not damaged.
