PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sunscreen composition having high ultraviolet screening effects, transparency in a visible light region and high safety for the skin with a low catalyst activity. SOLUTION: This sunscreen composition is obtained by formulating the following ingredients (A), (B) and (C). (A) a metal oxide/cerium oxide solid solution particle prepared by doping cerium oxide with a metal ion having a larger ionic radius and/or a lower valence than those of tetravalent cerium ion, (B) a resin having powder dispersibility and (C) a medium capable of dissolving and/or dispersing the ingredient (B).
