PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a storing data amount, to suppress the mass storage of a storing part, and the reduce a cost, in an electric power steering device that has a motor for generating a steering auxiliary force for a steering system of a vehicle and determines assist torque corresponding to steering torque. SOLUTION: A memory (ROM) in an assist torque calculating part stores, as a map, positive current data (assist torque) for right steering for the steering torque every predetermined car speed. Based on the detected steering torque Th and car speed V data, assist torque Ta corresponding to the absolute value of the steering torque and can speed is calculated with reference to the assist torque map (step S1 ). Next, the steering direction is determined based on the detected data of a steering direction (step S2 ).
