PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a sheet of paper for photographic paper by which the sheet of paper for photographic paper without foreign materials due to slime can stably be produced, fouling of a pressing felt and further paper break even by carrying out high-speed papermaking can remarkably be reduced and sizing effects stably act even on paper quality to highly stably maintain rigidity, adhesion to a resin coating layer after coating with a resin and penetration of a developer from an end of the photographic paper when converted into the photographic paper and subjected to developing treatment without adversely affecting photographic properties because the slime of a papermaking system can effectively be suppressed with a small amount of a chemical used and the production of the slime can remarkably be suppressed. SOLUTION: This method for producing the paper for the photographic paper is characterized by adding 0.03-0.5 mass% of a slime controlling agent having sterilizing or bacterial suppressing actions at any time during the production process for a starch powder, during preparation of a starch slurry and after gelatinizing of the starch and forming the sheet of paper by using a gelatinized starch having a ratio of viscosity reduction during 7 days after gelatinizing of the starch within 50% and a ratio of increase in viable cell number during 7 days after gelatinizing of the starch within 120% in the method for producing the paper for the photographic paper comprising adding the gelatinized starch containing the slime controlling agent into a papermaking raw material and forming the sheet of paper.
