PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ultraviolet ray (UV) and infrared ray (IR) absorbing glass with high transmittance for a visible ray, high shielding performance for UV and solar radiation, having a gray tone visible without fatigue. SOLUTION: The UV and IR absorbing glass having the gray tone is soda- lime silica based glass contains in wt.%, as UV and IR and color tone controlling ingredient, Fe2 O3 (all iron) of 0.3-0.7, CeO2 of 1.5-2.5, Er2 O3 and/or Nd2 O3 of 0.2-2.5, TiO2 of 0-1.0, CoO of 0-0.005, and an ion ratio of Fe<2+> /Fe<3+> is 0.20-0.90.
