Preparation of D-pantothenic acid (I) and/or its salts, or fodder additives containing them, comprises fermenting a coryneform bacterium (CB), especially one that already produces (I), in which activity of the endogenous glyA gene (serine hydroxymethyl transferase) is increased, particularly by overexpression. Preparation of D-pantothenic acid (I) and/or its salts, or fodder additives containing them, comprises fermenting a coryneform bacterium (CB), especially one that already produces (I), in which activity of the endogenous glyA gene (serine hydroxymethyl transferase) is increased, particularly by overexpression. (I) and/or its salts are enriched in medium or cells, and the product is isolated, after separation of up to 100% of the biomass and/or other components of the broth. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) A vector for expression of the glyA gene of Corynebacterium glutamicum comprising a promoter and the gene sequence; and (b) A CB, especially Corynebacterium, transformed with the vector of (a). |
