Mineral fibres heated to >60 degrees C. under a pressure of =0.1 torr, pref. about 0.001 torr, and then impregnated with a liquid resin without the pressure rising above 1 torr pref. at 0.01-1 torr. Esp. for impregnating virgin or precoate glass or carbon fibres with epoxy resin, usually at 400 degrees C., pref. 60-150 degrees C. to make reinforced mouldings or continuous rovings. Requires less resin to form a coherent matrix tha impregnation at higher pressures (by brushing). A stronger fibre/matrix bond is obtained.
|
