PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively prevent excessive density by evading the erroneous judgment of image density detected by a P sensor for a reference image when it is due to deterioration of a photoreceptor. SOLUTION: In the case that the emitted light quantity adjustment value of the P sensor 21 in calibration exceeds a specified value α (for instance 95), a computer 32 stops the calibration, and operates the P sensor 21 by fixing the emitted light quantity adjustment value at the specified value α.
