<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for drawing an optical fiber preform enabling to improve the drawing accuracy and productivity of the optical fiber preform. SOLUTION: With regard to a tapered part 1b of an optical fiber preform 1 in the drawing process, outer diameter calipers 20 and 25 are set, respectively at two positions of upstream part measuring position P1 and downstream part measuring position P2, to which each a fixed target outer diameter D10 and D20 are set, respectively. Based on the deviation (D1-D10) of the measured outer diameter D1, feeding speed V1 of the starting preform 1a is regulated, while based on the deviation (D2-D20) of the measured outer diameter D2, take- off speed V2 of the drawn preform 1c is regulated. Accordingly a time lag of regulation to the outer diameter of the drawn preform 1c can be reduced and the outer diameter can be accurately regulated in good response.</p> |
