PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyester having a high degree of polymerization, improving economical properties as compared with the conventional method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This method for producing the cyclic polyester oligomer is characterized by using a linear polyester oligomer having 1.0-1.6 initial molar ratio of a diol component/a dicarboxylic acid component in performing an esterification reaction of the dicarboxylic acid with the diol. And further, the method for performing a ring opening polymerization of the obtained cyclic polyester oligomer is also provided.
