PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for automatically assembling a torque converter on an automatic transmission. SOLUTION: The apparatus 3 for assembling a torque converter grips and holds a torque converter cover 103. A side end face of a spline hole 105a of a turbine runner 105 is pushed by a tip end face of an input shaft 107 or a side end face of a spline hole 106a of a stator 106 is pushed by a tip end face of a stator shaft 108. At the same time, angular positions of the spline holes 105a, 106a are made to coincide with angular positions of spline shafts 107a, 108a, respectively, by turning a chuck portion 30 under the condition that the axis of the torque converter cover 103 is in alignment with the axes of the input shaft 107 and others. Under such conditions, the turbine runner 105 and the stator 106 are fitted on the input shaft 107 and the stator shaft 108, respectively.
