PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized vertical mill capable of inhibiting unnecessary discharge of a ground material (b) from a table 8. SOLUTION: This vertical mill for feeding a material to be ground (a) into the space between the table 8 and each of roller tires 9 and subjecting the material (a) to crush grinding, is provided with a casing 11 of an oil hydraulic cylinder 10 for elevating and lowering the table 8, placed on the round G, a motor M for rotating the table 8, also placed on the ground G, a piston 12 of the hydraulic cylinder 10 and a rotary shaft 8a of the rotary table 8, both of which are integrally formed, wherein the rotary shaft 8a is connected to the rotary shaft 20 of the motor M with an Oldham's coupling 21 so that elevation/lowering of the table 8 is absorbed by the Oldham's coupling 21. Thus, by separating the elevation/lowering means and the rotation means of the table 8 from each other, since the need of elevating and lowering the rotation means by the elevation/lowering means is eliminated, the size of the vertical mill can be reduced. Further, a dam ring 71 is placed on the side of the whole periphery of the table 8 so as to be freely elevated and lowered, to control discharge of the ground material (b), wherein the elevation/lowering of the dam ring 71 is performed by using a cylinder 73 and can be finely adjusted by using slopes 72a and 74a.
