An electro-active rotary device (1) comprises two independently operable, curved electro-active portions (2) connected together at one end of each portion (2). The electro-active portions (2) extend from their respective connected ends in opposite senses around a common axis (7) with the free ends (24), (28) of the electro-active portions (2) facing each other. The electro-active portions may have a bender construction or other construction arranged, on activation, to generate relative rotation of their ends around the common axis. The electro-active device (1) has a compact arrangement which can provide a balanced torque to a rotator to which the free ends (24, 28) of the device (1) are coupled. |
