PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface hardening method for a member formed with a half molten forming material of a light metal without applying heat treatment and capable of enhancing its surface hardness, and a hardened member of the half molten forming material hardened with the surface by such a method. SOLUTION: Against the surface 1f of the member 1 formed by the half molten forming material of the light metal with 10% or more of a solid rate, a rotating body 10 is made to enter the surface part of the member while making contact with the surface to stir the surface part 1a of the member by the rotating body in a nonmolten state.
