A compound of formula (I) or a salt, ester or amide thereof; where X is O, or S, S(O) or S(O)₂ or NR¹⁰ where R¹⁰ is hydrogen or C_1-6 alkyl, and R¹, R², R³, R⁴, R⁵, R⁶, R⁷, R⁸ and R⁹ are various specified organic groups. These compounds are inhibitors of aurora 2 kinase, and are useful in the treatment of cancer.
