The printing units (2) are mechanically interconnected through the intermediary of a gear train, with each printing unit being associated with a drive motor (M). Register errors between the units are automatically minimized using a control apparatus supplied with information on printing-specific variables e.g. press speed or ink distribution or temperature. Load-torque changes in the individual units are determined from said printing-specific variables. Subsequently, the drive motors are energized in accordance with the determined load-torque changes in such a manner that the power flow in the gear train is constant as an average over time. <IMAGE> |
