PURPOSE: An EOC(Embedded Operations Channel) message response method in an SHDSL(Single pair High speed Digital Subscriber Line) system is provided to achieve the entire and efficient network management of an SHDSL system by embodying an operation management information transfer algorithm between an STU-C(SHDSL at the Central Office) and an STU-R(SHDSL at the Remote End). CONSTITUTION: An STU-R receives an EOC message request signal, composed of a header field comprising a 4-bit source address and a 4-bit destination address, a 1-byte message ID field and a 1-byte control information storage field, from an STU-C(S1). The STU-R confirms the type of the EOC message request signal received from an STU-C and executes an operation/management information collection operation or an operation management operation according to the control information of the EOC message request signal. Then the STU-R configures a corresponding EOC message response signal and transmits it to the STU-C(S2).
