PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make possible to efficiently set operation of a modem by eliminating the need for setting a data memory part or a comparative processing means corresponding to a plurality of modems in a terminal device. SOLUTION: An internal ROM 13 as a memory device on a modem 1 side connected to a terminal device 20 stores, for example, a conversion table 6 used for translation of AT commands. A conversion process part 3 on the MODEM 1 side translates the AT command input from the terminal device 20 by referring to the conversion table 6 and changes automatically the operation setting.
