COMPOSITION CONTAINING XANTHORRHIZOL AND USE THEREOF

PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing an effective amount of xanthorrhizol as a sesquiterpene-based compound is provided which can be effectively used as a cancer inhibiting composition or an antiinflammatory composition. CONSTITUTION: This pharmaceutical composition contains xanthorrhizol separated from a methanol extract of Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb., which xanthorrhizol is capable of inhibiting a mutation induced from reactive oxygen species in body, increasing quinone reductase activity as a detoxication agent of carcinogens and inhibiting carcinogenesis by inducing apoptosis of cancer cells and inhibits activity of COX-2 and iNOS.
