PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metropolitan access network 10 using a deformed form of MAC protocols. SOLUTION: Each of stations 14 of a ring 12 is related to one or more of time slots 30. Each slot carries information concerning the related station, a base connection field 32, a communication field 34 and a service quality field 36. Each station reads information of each of the time slots 30 to maintain a local database of the station itself concerning the status of the network 10.
