PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To expand an applicable range to a high frequency band range and increase the tolerable current amount several times and suppress generation of follow currents. SOLUTION: In a lightning arrester 1 for communication comprised of a cylindrical insulating tube 2 having openings on both ends, a carbon wire 3 mounted on the inner peripheral wall 2a of the insulating tube, an electrode 4 consisting of copper materials wherein discharging faces 4c1 are fitted opposing to the openings of the both ends of the insulating tube and a gas filled in the inside of the insulating tube, the carbon wire mounted on the inner peripheral wall is constituted in such a way that it will not contact with the electrode, and the discharging gap width 6 formed by discharging faces of the electrode is made to be 0.4 to 0.7 mm and further the main component of the gas filled into the insulating tube is made to be argon.
