PURPOSE: An apparatus for generating selectively a tone signal is provided to selectively generate a DTMF(Dual Tone Multi Frequency) or a DP(Dial Pulse) in order to discriminate whether the DTMF or DP detecting operation of an exchange is a normal state. CONSTITUTION: A 4 x 3 key(2) has a DTMF level or four keys for selecting dial pulses and three DTMF or dial pulse selection switches. A buffer(6) provides data and addresses of ROM and RAM unit. A controller(4) is connected between the key and buffer, and supervises information of a system and performs a control operation in response to previously set program. A DTMF generator(10) is controlled by the controller and generates a DTMF signal. An amplifying unit(12) is controlled by the controller and amplifies the output signal of the DTMF generator. An output selection unit(14) is controlled by the controller, and selects and outputs the amplified signal.
