PURPOSE: Provided are a method for culturing a marine microorganism Pseudomonas sp. Sπ-3 containing chondroitin sulfate and a method for extracting chondroitin sulfate, which is used as a raw material of medicines, cosmetics and functional foods, therefrom. CONSTITUTION: The marine microorganism Pseudomonas sp. Sπ-3 has biological properties listed in Table 3 and contains chondroitin sulfate. The method for culturing the marine microorganism Pseudomonas sp. Sπ-3 comprises the steps of: dissolving a medium composition comprising yeast extract, polypeptone, proteose peptone No. 3, soytone, ferric citrate, and dextrose in the filtered sea water to regulate the hydrogen concentration of the solution to pH 7.5; and inoculating Pseudomonas sp. Sπ-3, and culturing it. The method for extracting chondroitin sulfate comprises the steps of: centrifuging the Pseudomonas sp. S π-3 cultured medium to collect the pellet of Pseudomonas sp. Sπ-3; heating the pellet at 105 deg. C for 3 hours; centrifuging the pellet and filtering it to collect the filtrated solution; concentrating the filtrated solution under reduced pressure; and precipitating polysaccharides with ethanol.
