PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical semiconductor device, airtightly housing an optical semiconductor element, normally and stably operating the optical semiconductor element and efficiently transmitting light signals. SOLUTION: The optical semiconductor device is provided with a base body 1, loaded with the optical semiconductor element 2 at the center part of an upper side main surface, a metal lid body 3 joint to the outer peripheral part of the upper side main surface of the base body 1, so as to surround the optical semiconductor element 2 in a cylindrical shape with the closed upper end and an opened lower end, for which a through-hole 3b is made at the almost center part of an upper end face 3a and a light transmissive member 4 jointed to the periphery of the upper side opening of the through-hole 3b. For the metal lid body 3, a curved part 3d, whose cross section is almost U-shaped, is formed so as to surround the through-hole 3b and be projected downwards on the outer peripheral side of the jointed part with the light transmissive member 4 of the upper end face 3a.
