PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a brake torque larger than the one conventionally obtainable without increasing the radial dimension by using magnets having a volume and material equivalent to that of a conventional one. SOLUTION: An eddy current speed reducer comprises a brake drum 7, a support cylinder 20 made of ferromagnetic material and arranged inside the brake drum 7 so as to be free to move in the axial direction, and a plurality of permanent magnets 22 arranged apart in the circumferential direction on the outer periphery of the support cylinder 20, wherein each magnet 22 has magnetic pole faces on both ends in the radial direction. Respective ferromagnetic member 24 is arranged on both sides of each magnet 22 in the circumferential direction on the outer periphery of the support cylinder 20, wherein each magnet 22 is arranged in such a way that each magnetic pole faces has the same polarity in the circumferential direction.
