PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a personal authentication device for automatically detecting the direction of a user's face as a subject, and executing the face recognition in accordance with the direction of the face to execute the personal authentication. SOLUTION: This authentication device is provided with one or plural cameras for imaging the user; a lighting means mounted to illuminate the user's face; a detecting means for detecting the direction of the user's face, on the basis of the image output from the camera; a means for sorting the face images into the front faces and the face images excluding the front faces, a database of the face image for checking, created by imaging the images of the user from the front; and an identifying means for collating the front face image sorted by the sorting means with the face image in the database of the face image for collating, and identifying the user. According to this device, only the facial image facing the front can be selected from the user's face image photographed by the camera for checking. |
