PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method for a stepping motor, which greatly reduces settling time without using a damper, etc. SOLUTION: In this method, an exciting current (i2) is applied to the stepping motor (1), an exciting switching pulse (P) of the stepping motor (1) is input into a drive control part (2) according to a predetermined exciting sequence so as to step-drive the stepping motor (1). Characteristically, an exciting current thereof is reduced to a stop-position holding current, which generates a torque required for stopping of the stepping motor (1), from a revolution current which generates a torque necessary for running the stepping motor (1) within the settling time (t) when damped vibrations are created by the stepping motor (1) before and behind a stop position during or after deceleration of the stepping motor (1), which is brought about concurrently with or before, the stop of input of a command pulse (S) for generating the exciting sequence. |
