PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a rack mechanism of an optical reproducing device from being stuck. SOLUTION: In the rack mechanism, in which a 1st rack gear 31 is superposed on a 2nd rack gear 32 in a housing 23 of an optical pickup supported to be freely moved back and forth via a guide 24a and which is driven back and forth by a pinion gear 37, when the 1st rack gear 31 and the 2nd rack gear 32 do not mesh with the pinion gear, they are positioned so that the teeth are out of phase with each other, and when they mesh with the pinion gear 37, both of the 1st rack gear 31 and the 2nd rack gear 32 are supported to be slidable by the slide pins 33, 34, 35, 36, so that either the 1st rack gear 31 or the 2nd rack gear 32 moves so that the teeth of the pinion gear 37 mesh with the 1st rack gear 31 and the 2nd rack gear 32.
