PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new light emission element which does not cause problems due to such conventional light emission elements as an incandescent electric lamp, a fluorescent lamp and an LED. SOLUTION: This new light emission element 10 comprises a transparent substrate 1, a light-emitting layer 2 formed on the major surface of the transparent substrate 1 and an electrode 6 formed on the major surface of the light- emitting layer 2, and also the light-emitting layer 2 comprises a base layer 3 composed of a first nitride semiconductor and an island-like crystal 4 composed of a second nitride semiconductor included in the base layer 3, further an electron-emitting source 5 is disposed facing the electrode 6, in addition electron beams emitted from the electron-emitting source 5 excite the island-like crystal 4 in the light-emitting layer 2, and thence the island-like crystal 4 is made to emit light.
