PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the management work for read documents in a document reading device 1 which is made to read and store the document printed on paper such as a chart and a photograph in a data style. SOLUTION: A reading object frame is set up beforehand in a reading object frame setting part 14, corresponding to drawing name, drawing number, etc., within predetermined domains, such as corner square part of a paper surface, the data within the reading object frame among data read with a scanner 11 is extracted in an extraction part 13, and recognized as characters, such as a character and a sign, in a character recognition part 15. Document data are recorded on the recording medium 17 in a recording part 12 in a layered structure corresponding to the identifying information which consists of characters recognized, together with that identifying information. Therefore, the said drawing name, drawing number, and so on are read without inputting those identifying information by hand, enabling to simplify reading work.
