PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium excellent in the electromagnetic characteristics, such as an output level and a C/N, excellent in running durability and being enhanced volume recording density. SOLUTION: This medium is a magnetic recording medium such that a magnetic layer 2 is formed by the coating on a non-magnetic support 1 without through a non-magnetic layer, and the magnetic layer 2 contains a pigment 5 having the bigger average particle size than the thickness of the magnetic layer 2.
