PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circuit/method for film mode decision by which a film mode is decided precisely while avoiding erroneously judging a mode which is already quitted to be a film mode, and to provide a successively scanning conversion television receiver using them. SOLUTION: In addition to a first comparing means 176 for comparing correlation between the fields of a present field signal S1 and a 1-field delay signal S2 , a second comparing means 194 for comparing the correlation between the fields of the present field signal S1 and a 2-field delay signal S3 is provided and the second difference comparing level of a second comparing means 194 is set to be smaller than the first difference comparing level of the means 176. Thus, even when quitting a film mode cannot be judged by judgment only based on the means 176, precise film mode decision becomes possible.
