The exhaust gas is processed (10) by an electrostatic particle filter (16) with two electrodes (18, 20) each connected to a different terminal of a first current source (24). A tubular sleeve (30) retains the particles which coat the internal walls after being attracted to the first electrode. The filter is periodically regenerated by combustion of the particles in the tubular sleeve (30).
