PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a black defect of a solid state image sensing device. SOLUTION: The solid state image sensing device 3 is provided with a plurality of kinds of optical filters having sensitivity differences with wavelength characteristics of incident light for respective photodetecting elements. Further, a gain coefficient setting means 24 is provided with sets a predetermined gain coefficient for each optical filter when a photodetecting element having a black defect is detected by monitoring the signal level outputted from the solid image pickup element when plane light is made incident. The output signal levels of photodetecting elements corresponding to the respective optical filters are multiplied by individual gain coefficients to make level corrections so that the output signal levels obtained from photodetecting elements having no black defect have the same prescribed level is irrelevantly to the kinds of the optical filters. The photodetecting element having the black defect can be decided from the difference between the output signal level of the element and the prescribed level.
