PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for displaying such an image as a map or the like via a communications network which can smoothly and sequentially perform the scrolling and scaling up and down of the image. SOLUTION: In displaying a map, for example, a map server 10 is provided with a plurality of entire map data 110, 111, and 112 that are all different in scaling with regard to an identical entire region. Each of the scale-different entire map data is divided into a number of fraction map data dealing with every small region subdivided from the whole map. A map displaying program 32 in a client's computer selectively downloads, via the Internet 20, the regional fraction map data to be displayed in response to the scrolling or scaling up or down operations by the user and displays the regional map image. When the map displaying program 32 downloads a plurality of fraction map data of a different scale regarding an identical region, it assigns priority to smaller- scaled fraction map data in downloading and displaying. |
