PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing, from the corresponding rosin, a rosin derivative having keto functional group that is usable as an industrial chemical for pharmaceutical preparations and perfumes or as an intermediate therefor. SOLUTION: This method for producing a rosin derivative having keto functional group comprises oxidation of the corresponding rosin in an oxygen atmosphere using a catalyst of the general formula (I): [M1(II)<2+> 1-x-y Al<3+> x M 2(II)y (OH<-> )2 ]<x+> [A<n-> x/n ] (wherein, M1(II) is Mg<2+> and/or Co<2+> ; M2(II) is a bivalent metal atom other than Mg<2+> ; A<n-> is an n-valent anion; 0<x<1; and 0<y<1) or the general formula (2): [M1(II)<2+> 1-x Al<3+> x-z M(III)z (OH<-> )2 ]<x+> [A<n-> x/n ] (wherein, M1(II) is Mg<2+> and/or CO<2+> ; M(III) is a trivalent metal atom other than Al<3+> ; A<n-> is an n-valent anion; 0<x<1; and 0<z<1). |
