<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the emission of toxic gases during volume-reducing treatment of an expanded resin. SOLUTION: This method for the volume-reducing treatment of the expanded resin 13 comprises bringing a mineral hold material 31 composed of a heat-resistant and oil-resistant material prepared by adding a mineral to a heated oil 11 and solidifying the mixture during the volume-reducing treatment in the method for the volume-reducing treatment of the expanded resin 13 by bringing the expanded resin 13 into contact with the oil 11 heated at a temperature not lower than the softening point of the expanded resin 13. The mineral is an organism- derived mineral obtained by ashing an organism and carrying out extraction from the resultant ash. The mineral hold material 31 is composed of a ceramic prepared by adding the mineral to the heated oil 11 and baking the resultant mixture. The apparatus comprises an oil tank 9 for storing the heated oil 11, charging the expanded resin 13 so as to dip the expanded resin 13 in the oil 11, defoaming the expanded resin 13 and reducing the volume, a heating device 8 for the oil 11 and a resin receiver 12 for receiving the volume-reduced resin. The mineral hold material 31 composed of the ceramic obtained by adding the mineral and baking the resultant mixture is arranged in a position dipped in the heated oil 11 or brought into contact with the heated oil 11 in the oil tank 9 or in a supply passage of the heated oil 11.</p> |
