PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield apparatus for excavating without poorly affecting the surrounding ground and a close structure by adjusting the pressure in a cutter chamber quickly. SOLUTION: The shield apparatus 5 for stabilizing a face 58 by filling excavated soil or polluted water 56 into the cutter chamber 54 comprises a cylindrical skin plate 51, a cutter head 52 that is rotatably mounted to the front side of the skin plate 51, a cutter chamber 54 that is provided by dividing the front end section of the skin plate 51 using a partitioning wall 53, and a shield jack 55 for allowing the shield apparatus body 5 to advance. In the shield apparatus 5, the portioning wall 53 is inserted into the skin plate 51 slidably in an excavation direction, and at the same time is supported by an expansion and contraction means 66 that is provided at the side of the skin plate 51 and is expanded and contracted in the excavation direction according to the pressure in the cutter chamber 54. |
