METHOD AND CONNECTION SYSTEM FOR ESTABLISHING A DATA CONNECTION WITH EXTERNAL PERIPHERAL DEVICES VIA DIFFERENT INTERFACES

The invention relates to methods and a connection system for establishing a data connection between a peripheral device and a computer unit, according to which a data connection is established via a connection port on the computer unit and a connection port on the peripheral device. The data connection is guaranteed by a data cable comprising plugs that correspond with the connection ports. If the interface technologies of the connection ports in the data connection are different, the invention is provided with a conversion device, which performs a data conversion, encodes the energy supply on the computer side and transmits said energy in the form of encoded command signals to an analysis unit in the peripheral device. The analysis unit recognises the type of energy supply that has been provided from the computer side as a result of the encoded command signals and transmits an acknowledgement to the conversion device, prompting the activation of the data lines, if there is a sufficient energy supply on the peripheral device side. Simultaneously, in addition to the existing supply of energy to the conversion device from the peripheral side by means of the peripheral device using the plug-in connection, an additional supply of energy to the conversion device from the peripheral side is activated by the acknowledgement. The conversion device can therefore select its own energy supply independently of the interface technology used on the computer side, by means of the two energy supply lines on the peripheral side and the energy supply line on the computer side, taken either individually or in combination.
