PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation detector in which good printing characteristics can be obtained at the time of printing columnar wavelength converting material layers and the shapes of the layers and the output of each picture element little vary. SOLUTION: In a semiconductor photodetecting element 111, picture elements 105 for photodetection composed of thin film transistors or photodiodes are two-dimensionally arranged on a substrate 104. A plate-shaped first phosphor layer 101 is provided on the element 111 and columnar second phosphor layers 102 are provided on the phosphor layer 101 at the positions corresponding to the picture elements 105. The phosphor layer 101 is composed of particles of a wavelength converting material having a mean particle diameter of 5-20μm and has porosity of 20-50%.
