The invention relates to a household lighter of the type that comprises a gas container (1) which is fitted with an outlet valve (2) that connects to a burner (6) and of the type in which a button (15) simultaneously opens the valve (2) and activates a piezoelectric ignition generator (7). The inventive lighter is characterised in that it comprises a slide mechanism (16) which is activated by a second button (14) against the tension of a spring (20) such that said slide mechanism can inhibit the operation of the valve (2), in turn disabling the ignition despite the fact that the button is pressed (15), since, in order for the lighter to work, both buttons (14 and 15) must be pressed simultaneously for the ignition to occur. The inventive lighter is designed to render it difficult for a young child to carry out the ignition operations.
