PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the underground junction method and apparatus of a shield excavator for preventing the contact of a sealing apparatus with earth and sand, protecting the sealing apparatus, and improving waterstopping performance. SOLUTION: The shield excavator (1) at a reception side having a cutter (6a), a hood section (18) having a cutter (16a) and a sealing apparatus (19), and a penetration side shield excavator (11) having a protection ring (22) are used, a cutter (5a) in the reception side shield excavator (1) is pulled toward the inside of a skin plate (7) after both the shield excavators (1 and 11) reach a junction position (M), the shield excavator (11) at the penetration side is allowed to advance and is engaged with the tip of the skin plate (7) for pushing the protection ring (22), and the skin plate (7) and the hood section (8) are sealed by the sealing apparatus (19).
