PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stabilizing ascorbic acid or its salt in a solution state, to obtain a solution containing stabilized ascorbic acid or its salt and to obtain an assay reagent for iron, UIBC or copper in a sample using the solution as a reducing agent solution. SOLUTION: This method for stabilizing ascorbic acid or its salt in a solution state comprises adding a hydroxylamine salt and/or a dithionite to a solution containing ascorbic acid and/or a dithionite. The solution contains ascorbic acid or its salt and a hydroxylamine and/or a dithionite. The reagent for assaying a target substance to be assayed in a sample comprises using a solution containing ascorbic acid or its salt and a hydroxyl amine salt and/or a dithionite as a reducing agent solution.
